Frequently asked
Pixels, quality and file size
What size should an Instagram photo be?
Portrait posts read best at 1080 by 1350 pixels, squares at 1080, stories and reels at 1080 by 1920. The presets here match those exactly, so there is no guesswork.
How do I compress a photo for email?
Use the email preset: it resizes to a 2048 pixel long edge and fits the whole batch under a 25 MB total, which clears almost every inbox limit. For a single photo, aim under 1 MB.
Does resizing reduce quality?
Downscaling well actually sharpens perceived quality at the new size. This tool resizes in steps with high-quality resampling, and the quality slider controls compression separately, so you decide the trade.
Can I hit an exact file size?
The email preset does this automatically by searching for the right quality per photo. If a photo cannot fit the budget at acceptable quality, the tool steps the dimensions down slightly and tries again.
What does DPI change when printing?
DPI maps pixels to physical size: 10 by 15 cm at 300 DPI needs 1181 by 1772 pixels. The print preset produces exactly that and writes the density into the file so labs read it correctly.
